Generator Room Renovation – UNRWA Jnah Branch

The UNRWA Jnah Branch required a full upgrade of its generator infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and acoustic performance. Our team was assigned to renovate the existing generator setup, transitioning from outdated outdoor canopy installations to a modern, insulated generator room.

Scope of Work

The project involved the removal and reinstallation of three diesel generators with capacities of 650 kVA, 500 kVA, and 250 kVA. Previously housed in outdoor canopies, these units were relocated into a purpose-built, acoustically treated generator room.

Key upgrades included:

Critical Mufflers: Installed to reduce exhaust noise while maintaining optimal backpressure.

Fuel System: A new fuel piping network designed for safety, reliability, and compliance with international standards.

Exhaust System: Custom-built exhaust pipes with aluminum jacketing for thermal insulation and long-term durability.

Electrical Infrastructure: Installation of new cable trays and high-capacity power cables to support continuous full-load operation.

Acoustic Treatment: Advanced soundproofing engineered to maintain noise levels below 65 dB(A) at 2 meters, even with all three generators running simultaneously under full load.

Two large industrial generators in a room, one on each side of a central walkway, connected by prominent red fuel pipes. The left unit shows a visible “VOLVO” engine label, with fans, engines, and fuel lines clearly visible.

Objectives Achieved

  • Smooth transition from canopy-based setup to an insulated indoor installation
  • Enhanced safety and compliance with upgraded fuel and exhaust systems
  • Significant reduction in noise pollution, meeting strict acoustic benchmarks
  • Improved reliability and ease of maintenance of the power infrastructure.

Technical Highlights

Sound Level Target: <65 dB(A) @ 2m under full load

Generator Synchronization: All three units configured for simultaneous operation

Material Selection: Corrosion-resistant aluminum jacketing and vibration-isolated mufflers for durability and performance

Outcome

The renovated generator room now provides UNRWA Jnah with a robust, quiet, and efficient power solution capable of supporting critical operations with minimal environmental impact. The project was completed on time and successfully met all technical and performance requirements.
